Epilogue

Sunday

[After a boat ride, the living characters and their luggage are escorted by the employees of Adamas into an office building. It's sleek black plastic and white tile flooring and stainless steel door handles all over the place. Very different from the hotel - but very similar to that video of the conference room. At length they are escorted to the very same conference room. There is catered food laid out. (Though if you were the type of person who very much liked Ciel's food, you will find that this food is not quite as good.)

The dead characters awaken in their physical bodies, resting on cots in a series of simple holding rooms. The doors of these rooms are not locked. Upon milling about, it will become patently obvious that all the participants, even the ones who never manifested as electronic ghosts, are physically alive. The suppression of power has completely worn off by this time and all characters are at full strength once more.

There are two consecutive floors of the high-rise building where the characters are actually allowed to wander around before being politely debuffed by security guards. The lower of the floors is mostly taken up by these holding cells as well as a handful of interrogation rooms. The higher of these floors bears the conference room along with some other rooms - a waiting room with couches and a TV, an area with vending machines, restrooms, and a large empty room where the portal towers are set up, staffed by an attendant who will escort you to your choice among the canon points of the participants. You can also ask the attendant to bring you back after you have picked up something or someone.]

Wake up...

[When the living wake up, there's indeed a surprise. Sheepy's there in the lobby.]

Morning~! You made it to the end. That means it's possible for you to go home. The hotel doors are still locked, of course. Your home isn't in this world. But you now have access to the basement, where the portal is ready! You remember those towers? That's what it looks like when it's off.

Also, I made it so your dead friends are like me now. You can see them when you're awake! You'll also be able to visit each other in your dreams for as long as your nanomachines are still in. This way they can always be with y-

[Sheepy blinks suddenly, looking around as if she's distracted. If you look out the bulletproof glass door, you can see that there's a ship approaching in the distance.]

Huh, that's pretty strange. Ranarium already left you guys to either die or escape... who's coming?

[It's coming up quickly, but not here yet. She's just going to disappear while she tries to figure that out.]

Week 8

Friday

Ten participants wake up in the participant staff rooms this morning. It's the first Friday in a while that there isn't a decrease in their numbers - though not without other costs: Two of the hostages have been lost. There's still that last motive hanging over their heads, an unconventional one. Can they handle the challenge?

It's quiet... too quiet...

Week 8

Monday - Thursday

This marks the eight week of the experiment. The eighth Monday since the killing experiment began. Many things have happened in that time, both good and terrifying. It was a long time since any of them have likely been able to feel safe. And no doubt this week will not be the start of that. From forty experimental subjects, they were now only ten. And when they are moved at the beginning of the week as usual, this time it's into the previously occupied staff rooms.

Each seems to have some remnant of those who had stayed in them before. More pieces for the remaining few to try and fit into the puzzle they were given at the start of this mess. The staff themselves are nowhere to be found. Apparently they have been evacuated. The only other 'person' who still shows up is Sheepy...

Now that there were only ten, what would become of the experiment? What new twists and hardships awaited them? Only time would tell. But if the weekend before taught them anything then it should be to cherish the time they have and brace themselves for anything. They have done well to make it this far and with just a little more strength they may be able to survive it yet.

One more week.

Sunday

victims

scapegoat

Once everyone has placed their votes in, the trial finally comes to a close. The dream scenery fades from everyone's sight into the oblivion that comes with those sleeping, and the world of the waking materializes in front of everyone as they wake. The tablet beeps obnoxiously with the words urging them all to head to the Ballroom. Once they all gather into the ballroom, the irritating beeping noise stops and the doors close shut behind all of the participants. The room is much more than large enough to fit all the participants, considering so few of them are left, and yet it still feels claustrophobic, perhaps because the robots from Keenan's execution, the lions who executed Nepeta, and the small monsters that executed Leo, are still here.

...Although everyone will notice that Crow is already within the Ballroom before they even entered. Jesus Christ, is he armed?

Week 7

Friday

[Another week is almost through, and death is still beside the guests of the hotel. A dark reminder of the price their secrets hold in this hotel. For some, that could be a weight that will tether them down. But for others, it will just be even more reason to search for the light of truth.

Morning comes, and everyone's secrets are still safe... though the sense may arise that someone was making new secrets, in order to keep the ones from the past. It's still silent for now... Time will tell if all of these secrets will catch up to them. But anyone outside of their rooms in the early morning will hear the starting gun -

Literally. That noise sounded a lot like a gunshot. But it's not a bad idea to race, since there will be a lot of ground to cover.]

Week 7

Monday - Thursday

[Despite earnest intentions to the contrary, last week had a business-as-usual murder trial. Well, you may not all act noble, but you'll be treated like royalty on this new floor. ...Except by Sheepy, who is still bugging you when you're awake. The strange distortions appear in the air before she shows up before everyone.]

Goooood morning! Sleep well? We unlocked the 8th floor, so make sure you move in and get cozy! The motive's on the way and it's one of my favorites! Have fun~

Week 6

Friday

[ Another week, another death... with last week's mistake still fresh in their minds, how will they fare this time around? Will the weight of it crush them or will they find themselves refined into sharp, clear diamonds? An answer is nigh-- because once more an eerie silence fills the hotel. That feeling that something's just not right may be familiar to them by now. They may sense it...

...that someone had decided that there is an injustice in the world worth killing for.

Although it may take them some time to deduce this-- they will find that the source of the ground and first floor levels of the hotel. It is not immediately obvious but some may get the sense that they are being watched. No doubt Sheepy will be watching them during their investigation and making sure things go by the books. ]

Week 6

Monday - Thursday

There is a particularly somber atmosphere in the quiet hotel. The day before ended with a terrible miscalculation and an innocent life lost in the name of the “experiment”. Emotions certainly ran high and it would not be strange for those effects to linger into the dawn of the new week. Until now they had successfully determined and executed three other murderers. But the fourth got away. They may not want to face the future yet—but the experiment stops for nothing.

The opening of a new wing would probably be of little solace to them. But it's not long before they are granted a small distraction.

Early Monday morning -- before they’ve even had a chance to properly examine the new floor and it’s rooms -- a text announcement arrives, following a small jingle. The sound is new; different from the announcement tones used during the investigation last week. It’s just as loud and persistent, but there’s an annoying set of four repeated notes in a pattern that lazily imitates a song assigned to this notification.
]

Hello participants.

I hope you are doing well this morning and are well rested for the day ahead. There will be a meeting held in the lobby fifteen minutes from now. You will all be required to attend. Any person who is absent will be appropriately hunted down and brought to the meeting place by whatever means necessary. An important change has been made to the experimental proceedings, of which you must all now be made well aware.

See you all in fifteen minutes.

Week 5

Friday

[ One more week... gone. This the worst of the lot yet. The beginning of the week saw all but three introduced to a dangerous poison without any warning-- some worse than others. One even died in the poison's wake. The most cruel and heartless motive yet had been unleashed without mercy, even upon the staff. What did this mean for the end of the week, as the effects grew more and more potent?

...had someone decided that the good of the many outweighed one person's life and ended it?

...

This time there is no question.

When morning comes, the long days of suffering has ended at last for all those who had been poisoned throughout the week. It may take a bit before you hit your healthiest stride, but the ill-effects have gone leaving only one question-- who has died for your good health. ]

Week 5

Monday - Thursday

[ Another week has come and gone, and again a new floor of the hotel is unlocked and the participants are assigned new rooms on that floor.

This time there is little question of the 'motive'.

It should become clear almost immediately that you don't feel quite yourself. Maybe like you ate something bad-- or maybe like you're on the verge of experiencing a bad flu. Although it's probably not necessary, an announcement to the tablets explain things nicely.]

Week 4

Monday - Sunday

[It is a new week. The body of Nepeta Leijon has been removed. The restaurant is no longer locked down. There is a pre-recorded video announcement from Sandra Chavez. She's wearing red, still, a different woolen outfit, and the plain walls behind her now appear wreathed.] Participants, good morning. The fifth floor has been unlocked, and you have each been assigned bedrooms there. The restaurant is also unlocked, and Chef Ciel has returned for the time being.

I am happy to announce a new motive: [She smiles cordially.] A successful murderer will be invited to the personnel winter holiday party. [She leans in dead serious, almost afraid, and intones.] That was a joke. There is no motive this week. A murderer will not actually get invited to the holiday party. For administrative reasons, in fact, murder will not be mandated at all this week. [Generous smile.] As such, we have provided a caramel macchiato cupcake buffet in the ballroom as a preventative measure.

[She leans back again, comfortable.] That is all. You are at liberty to decide how you will spend what is locally considered the winter holiday season. [Though not where.]

Week 3

Friday

[ Another week has come and gone-- albeit with a great deal of excitement. It wouldn't be strange if by the end of the week you had nearly forgotten the week's new motive altogether with everything that's been going on since the middle of the week. But even if you did, that didn't make it go away. It was still there. Waiting. For just one person to give it the proper consideration.

...had someone decided that one person's life was worth erasing to get rid of another?

It no longer seems so crazy, does it?

As another morning dawns, people will rise-- perhaps with every intention of going about their daily routines same as always. But somewhere, a surprise is waiting to be discovered. But what oh what will they find this time? Just maybe it won't be so bad. Or maybe it will. ]

Week 3

Monday - Thursday

[It is a new week. The body of Keenan Caine has been removed. The restaurant is still locked down. There is a pre-recorded video announcement from Sandra Chavez.] Participants, good morning. You will notice that a new motive has been announced; the third floor has been unlocked, and you have each been assigned bedrooms there. The fourth floor is also unlocked.

Please be aware that for the next seven days minimum Chef Ciel will be taking a break. She is still alive. The kitchen will be closed for decontamination during this period.

We've continued our attempts to identify the person or persons who shot Victor S Arseid, Elizabeth Foley, and Van Grants. Many of you requested that we "do something". We have therefore decided that if more than five participants die in certain ways over the course of any given week, we will have to declare the experiment completely unsustainable and kill all of you. Participants who are put to sleep permanently will not count towards the total of five. Participants who are executed will count towards the total of five.

That is all.
[So, off to your new rooms! For the most part the black and blue wings have the usual futons, but the red and white wings have mostly heart beds.]

Week 2

Friday

[ You've all done pretty well this week thus far -- this time no one has even seemed to outwardly give the motive much of a blink or two. Given that this has been the case, it probably ran through everyone's minds that no one this week would bother to commit an additional murder based upon motive, especially since it had been already filled with the sea of three bodies added to the pile. Besides, who would kill for something like Power anyway? Psh.

... It wasn't like people had killed their own best friends for power or accidentally unleashed monstrous abominations in their quest for power, right?

Anyway.

As morning dawns once again and people get up...at around 5-6 am or so, for the early risers they may find something quickly, although whether that somethingis something pleasant is another thing entirely. ]

Week 2

Monday - Thursday

[It's ya girl, Sandra Chavez! She speaks into the camera evenly, probably from a script and not live.]

Participants, good morning. You will notice that a new motive has been announced; the second story has been unlocked, and you have each been assigned bedrooms there. Please go to sleep in those bedrooms starting tonight. Also, to be clear, Miss Yoshiko Tsushima and Nunnally vi Britannia have violated the rules by not participating in experimental activities. That is all.
