Monday - Thursday

[ There is a particularly somber atmosphere in the quiet hotel. The day before ended with a terrible miscalculation and an innocent life lost in the name of the “experiment”. Emotions certainly ran high and it would not be strange for those effects to linger into the dawn of the new week. Until now they had successfully determined and executed three other murderers. But the fourth got away. They may not want to face the future yet—but the experiment stops for nothing. 

The opening of a new wing would probably be of little solace to them. But it's not long before they are granted a small distraction.

Early Monday morning -- before they’ve even had a chance to properly examine the new floor and it’s rooms -- a text announcement arrives, following a small jingle. The sound is new; different from the announcement tones used during the investigation last week. It’s just as loud and persistent, but there’s an annoying set of four repeated notes in a pattern that lazily imitates a song assigned to this notification.]

Hello participants. 

I hope you are doing well this morning and are well rested for the day ahead. There will be a meeting held in the lobby fifteen minutes from now. You will all be required to attend. Any person who is absent will be appropriately hunted down and brought to the meeting place by whatever means necessary. An important change has been made to the experimental proceedings, of which you must all now be made well aware.

See you all in fifteen minutes.

[His closet contains several outfits which I guess have been provided by the hotel?? Although he does still have the outfit he arrived in, even if he doesn't wear most of that ensemble anymore except for the gloves. There's also a bear trap and a novelty fire poker with a heart-shaped handle just lying in there because idk where else do you store that stuff.]

[ ... aaalright the bear trap and the fire poker are eyebrow raise worthy, but that's a given by now so if there's nothing within the closet or the clothes in the closet, we're moving on to the drawers. ]

[Yup, his pockets are clean and there's no other weird things (except belts. his clothes all have too many belts for some reason idek jrpg clothes man) in there.

Anyways, the drawers. They have a lot of crap. There are some other articles of clothing in a couple of them, like boxers and shit, but another drawer just seems to be filled with USBs? They're not even hidden or anything, they're just kinda there. Also, on top of the drawers there might be a stack of envelopes, but they don't seem to have anything in them.]

[ Huh... the envelopes are weird, but these USB drives are something he will plug in experimentally to check for their content. Is he going to regret it? ]

[Surprisingly no! Actually it's really boring. It's just of Scarlett O'Hara hall on last Wednesday from 12 - 1 PM. There's really not much to see there to be honest, since people probably don't walk around in the residential blocks of previous floors.]

[ H u h.

Time to check another of these USBs because he can't see for the life of him why Crow is keeping this one, but he also doesn't feel like asking just yet. ]

[Well, if he's just picking them at random... it looks like this one shows the 3rd floor main halls, but at 3 - 4 PM, also for last Wednesday. Still boring, but since it's a main hallway maybe some people are passing through?]

[ Huh x2.

And here's a third sample. Hopefully after that he'll bring himself to actually ask - or maybe Crow will interrupt him, who knows. ]

[Interestingly enough, Crow's just watching him with his usual smile, but not saying anything.

Anyways, the third one he picks happens to be the laser tag arena at 2 - 3 PM, last Wednesday. Wow, that sure is a lot of blood, huh? Someone left a mess.]

[ Well, this in itself would at least make.. moderate sense to have, but in combination with all this, Mikami is not finding himself understanding the logic.

So alright, he'll give up and turn to Crow directly. ]

What did you take so many for?

[nevergraduating]

[This whole time, Crow's just been observing Mikami for his reaction. He doesn't show any sign of surprise when Mikami turns to question him.]

There was something I just wanted to keep an eye out for, that's all. [Did that... even answer the question?]

[ No. ]

[ You. elaborate. ]

[Well, he's not going to make it that easy. Crow will turn to sit and recline on the couch before answering.]

How 'bout you go and see if you can find one of the laser tag arena from 1-2 PM instead? I think that'd clear everything up.

[ Clearing up things sounds quiet good now, so Mikami will just silently do exactly that. And... watch... in further silence. There is a lot of silence as he skips through this material. Largely it confirms only what he already knew, however... ]

... how come it was you of all people who helped?

Heh. I liked them, that's all. They were gonna do it with or without me, so might as well have given them a better chance to not get caught, though I guess we both know how that turned out.

[Not that they'd had much of a choice, with the risk of a trial. Still, he'd at least hoped that Yuri's involvement would fly under the radar, but then the strip searches had happened, and... well. After that, the camera footage would have revealed everything too.]

[ Mikami sighs and brings his hand to his forehead as if to fight an oncoming headache. ]

I'd say that you and Lowell should have confessed along with Graham, but it seems you are not the only vigilantes around.

[ A grimace. ]

Though Graham's death seems more like a preventive measure to avoid the reverse situation.

Yeah, didn't exactly want to paint a target on my back after that. [He's got someone to try and keep living for, after all.]

Looks like it. Pretty dangerous to have a guy who can target anyone around and who's shown he's more than willing to take advantage of it.

[A beat.]

So, what are you gonna do about it? [It's an honest question - the tone isn't taunting despite the words, and if Mikami feels like making it public, he won't protest either. He dug his own grave with this one.]

Nothing.

[ There is a pause here too. He'll put all these USBs back to where they were in the meantime. ]

If someone asks me about it, I won't lie about your involvement, but I feel no need to make an announcement about it either. I haven't done it for Lowell either.

In a place where we can trust nobody, communal decisions aren't always for the best it appears.

[ HAZAMAGATE......... why couldn't we just execute him immediately, sheesh. ]

[Maybe he shouldn't really be surprised considering the Yuri thing wasn't made public, but still. Crow's silent for a little bit as he looks at Mikami.]

...Heh. Thanks. I wonder if I should say that I owe you one.

[Not that he's as likely to get as much backlash regardless, but... well. You never know, in a place like this.]

[ ... he says, oddly promptly for something that doesn't necessarily require an answer. ]

I'd rather you just put your efforts into not killing anybody undeserving and surviving this instead of starting a favor-based bias system.

["Anyone undeserving", eh...]

If someone else is counting on me for that, guess I really do have to rise to the occasion, don't I? And here I was, thinking my days of holding responsibility were done and over with. [Sigh! It sounds exaggerated, though.]
