Friday

[ You've all done pretty well this week thus far -- this time no one has even seemed to outwardly give the motive much of a blink or two. Given that this has been the case, it probably ran through everyone's minds that no one this week would bother to commit an additional murder based upon motive, especially since it had been already filled with the sea of three bodies added to the pile. Besides, who would kill for something like Power anyway? Psh.

... It wasn't like people had killed their own best friends for power or accidentally unleashed monstrous abominations in their quest for power, right?

Anyway.

As morning dawns once again and people get up...at around 5-6 am or so, for the early risers they may find something quickly, although whether that somethingis something pleasant is another thing entirely. ]

[ She looks as slightly downtrodden and even-faced as she usually does when she's not talking about cooking. Same old same old. There's a little extra defensiveness to her posture, too, but that could just be the stRESS OF FINDING A BODY HACKED TO PIECES IN THE FREEZER............... ]

Um, let me think.

[ ... ]

I took a pocket knife from the convenience store, after Chavez-san's last announcement. I was scared, so I wanted something I could keep with me, in case I needed to defend myself.

[ At that, she digs around in her pocket and produces the aforementioned knife, setting it on the table. For what it's worth, it's clean and undamaged. ]

Then...I finished using my last camera. I was taking pictures most of the afternoon, so in the evening I dropped it off at the gift shop to be developed. I saw Lowell-san in the ballroom before that--I think it was around 7:00.

I made dinner after that, and set it out for anyone to take like usual. After I picked up my photos, I went back to my room for the night. That was around 9:00.

A few hours ago, I woke up to make breakfast.

[lienhearts]

[He'll take that knife, carefully pulling out the blade and looking it over before sliding it closed. Into his pocket it goes.]

Sorry, but I'll be keeping this. If the independent investigation-whatevers find someone else is the culprit, you can get a new one.

[There's no malice in his voice. Actually, now that he's not examining the body anymore, he sounds pretty laid-back.]

You didn't go anywhere before you came here?

[respring]

I assumed as much, that's fine.

[ She shakes her head. ]

Once I got dressed, I went straight to the restaurant.

Not too many details, huh...

Sakura's alibi:

Took a knife from the store after Chavez announced the motive. Pocket knife submitted for evidence; appears unused.

Took photos during the day and dropped off camera for development. Saw Yuri Lowell in the ballroom at 7PM.

Made dinner and left it out for anyone who wanted some. Picked up photos and went to bed around 9PM.

Saturday morning: woke up, got dressed, and went straight to the restaurant.

[Once he's done noting it down, he shows it to her.]

Does that look right to you?

I spent a bit of time in my room sorting my photos before I went to sleep, but yes. That was around 10:00.

[ a nod ]

Then, that's that. Unless there's anything else you'd like to add to help your case?

[ She's quiet for a moment. ]

The motive...was getting back our powers, right? My magic doesn't have many practical applications, so even if I was willing to kill someone to get it back, it wouldn't be very useful, here.

[ ............ ]

And I really don't have the stomach to cut someone up like that, for what it's worth. [ She looked like she was going to barf just digging through the bloody trash bag, tbh. ]

Could you explain your magic a little more? I don't know much about the stuff, so even if you say something like that, it doesn't mean much to me.

It's called Imaginary Numbers, which...is a little complicated if you aren't familiar with system of magic my world uses, but I'll try my best to make it clear.

I can manipulate matter made out of ether in place of manipulating the other four elements--fire, water, wind, and earth. Ether is a form of artificial magic energy, and it can't attain a real physical form. But spirit beings can use ether to materialize in the physical world, it's what their bodies are made out of. So, in short, I can harm spirits and other immaterial beings. It's mostly useless against anything not made of ether...most living people.

[ ... ]

I-I can also perform regular magic, but I don't have any proper training, so I can't fight with it.

[Yeah, that sounds pretty darn weird, but okay.]

What does 'regular' magic look like?

[respring]

It's very broad. It depends what the magus in particular specializes in. My older sister, she uses the five elements, for example.

Assuming I’ve never seen magic before in my life, how would you describe it?
