Week 6

Monday - Thursday

[ There is a particularly somber atmosphere in the quiet hotel. The day before ended with a terrible miscalculation and an innocent life lost in the name of the “experiment”. Emotions certainly ran high and it would not be strange for those effects to linger into the dawn of the new week. Until now they had successfully determined and executed three other murderers. But the fourth got away. They may not want to face the future yet—but the experiment stops for nothing. 

The opening of a new wing would probably be of little solace to them. But it's not long before they are granted a small distraction.

Early Monday morning -- before they’ve even had a chance to properly examine the new floor and it’s rooms -- a text announcement arrives, following a small jingle. The sound is new; different from the announcement tones used during the investigation last week. It’s just as loud and persistent, but there’s an annoying set of four repeated notes in a pattern that lazily imitates a song assigned to this notification.]

Hello participants. 

I hope you are doing well this morning and are well rested for the day ahead. There will be a meeting held in the lobby fifteen minutes from now. You will all be required to attend. Any person who is absent will be appropriately hunted down and brought to the meeting place by whatever means necessary. An important change has been made to the experimental proceedings, of which you must all now be made well aware.

See you all in fifteen minutes.

Yes. When there are no games, this place seems to be a nice spot to gaze upon...or be allowed to drift into contemplation.

Hm, then I presume it was relatively easy to find peaceful solitude in that nightclub?

Holy shit, no, it defeats the purpose of the club if it's not so loud you can't hear yourself think. More the color scheme than anything. That and how there's so many goddamn parts to it - that place is fuckin' easy to get turned around in.

Not to say parts of it weren't quiet like this, though - I lived above it, actually, had my private rooms up there. No one got in there without my permission. So that part...yeah, the solitude was nice.

[ Still, Duke is not sure if he'd ever be considered a "nightclub" person. Probably not. ]

I suppose you would also wind up not missing many "parties", even if it was quiet in your section of the building.

[It's dry, when he says it. Sarcastic, almost.]

Never really been one for parties, my friend, they're boring as fuck and not really my style besides.

[ Then again, he does not think he can quite imagine Top Dollar at a party. ]

...I understand. They are not enjoyable to the extent people happen to say they are.

You know, I can't really see you enjoying them, somehow.

[Just saying.]

We don't really do high-society balls or anything, anyway, if that's the sort of thing you're picturing. Blackout's for partying, yeah, but it's a lot rougher than that. Pretty much anyone who wants to can come drink and do whatever, maybe hook up for the night. Shit like that.

I don't usually join 'em in what they're doing. Anyone I want to spend time with can come up and see me personally.

I have never enjoyed the typical ball parties that I had been forced to mingle in.

... I believe I may have made the mistake of confusing Blackout as a place in which those type of parties may occur. Although, I am sure that there is likely something similar to a "nightclub" on Terca Lumireis.

[ Except maybe less ... modern. ]

You thinking of a bar, or something else?

[...I mean, Blackout is very much that as well.]

Don't worry too much about it, though - if you're not familiar with it then you're not. It's kind of a specific sorta thing.

A bar, although I have not frequented such places myself.

[ It is no surprise that Duke is out of his element in these things-- and then to the rest he will just choose to nod. ]

You'd probably hate the whole nightclub environment, too, if you think bars are a bit much. They're...interesting, though I'm not too into them anymore. Part of not being twenty-one anymore, I guess - the novelty wears off after a while.

They make good money, though, so I can't complain too much.

You are likely correct. I would presume they share the similarity of having a lingering stench of alcohol present and too many individuals converged in one place.

[ Although he can understand why those places would be very profitable. ]

You got it. Though if alcohol's the most that's going on there, we're all doing pretty good.
